Famous seedbed of the Obama Presidency, Chicago also has a strong literary tradition (Sinclair, Hemingway, Bellow, etc). So it is hardly surprising that Granta Magazine, which has been in the forefront of the finest writing for thirty years and is committed to the power and urgency of the contemporary story, has made it the focus of its September issue. Fittingly, three international writers, Lebanese Hanan al-Shaykh (My Mother's Story), Libyan Hisham Matar (In the Country of Men) and Scottish Alan Warner (Morvern Callar) give us their take on the Windy City.
