Mick Jackson starts the ball rolling by reading from his new collection, Bears of England, dramatised on Radio 4. ‘Jackson is a bit of a cult, and no wonder, his writing is deeply, almost feverishly, quirky’ (Sunday Times). His other books are Ten Sorry Tales and The Underground Man.
How it works: Write a 3 minute tale to read aloud (300-350 words max) titled: The Strange Relic. Would-be competitors’ names are picked from a hat. The time limit is absolute. The audience votes for the winner.
Tips: Practice. Remember the title. End with a bang. Read Mick Jackson’s (slightly longer) story on the back page of this brochure - The Legend of Edgar Mount - for inspiration.
